CAN SERRAT

CAN SERRAT is located in El Bruc, at the foot of Montserrat and is only 45 km from Barcelona. This center was founded in 1989 by a group of 11 Norwegian artists. It is open all year for rent to an individual resident in a shared or private bedroom, with or without the use of a shared studio and equipment, as well as exists the possibility to rent the whole house or a part of it for group activities for one day, up to 3 weeks rent.

ACCESS:

35 minutes with car/cab from the airport to Can Serrat (a reservation for a cab is possible for a fee, see below)

Direct access to hiking trails in the mountain of Montserrat

10 minutes walking distance from the house to all shops in the village (bakery, pharmacy, bar, restaurants, supermarket …)

THE HOUSE

The house is an old manor of 1187m².  On the ground floor, we find the hall, a kitchen, dining area, bathrooms, and an old cellar of 260m² which has been converted into a workspace. Throughout the house, there are 16 rooms for single, double or triple occupancy, four studies 36, 24 (x2) and 25 sqm, 2 kitchens, 5 private showers, 4 toilets, and 2 dining-rooms. Outside is an area of 9200 m² with terraces, a stage for concerts and performances. The total living capacity is up to 41 people.

SPACES WORKSHOPS

An old cellar: printmaking studio + rehearsal space for dance / performance /theater (260m2)

1 multifunctional communal studio.  Lots of natural light (36m2)

1 multifunctional communal studio which we reserve for sound artists.  Less natural light. (25m2)

2 writer and presentation room with a projector. (24m2)

Additionally, there are several spaces outside including 2 terraces + a courtyard with arches near an outdoor concert stage (9200m2 garden)

Sound recording and live equipment (ask for the list)

Printmaking studio (Manual chalcographic printing press (80 cm wide), blankets and a paper press. Various basic tools are available for use, but it is suggested that experienced printmakers bring their own tools_ · Please note the printmaking studio is NOT set up for acid etching)

ART SUPPLY

Residents are responsible for providing and bringing their own supplies.  For example, materials which must be bought or purchased locally are inks, plates, varnish, personal specific tools, paper, canvas, paints, brushes, etc… (ilpintore-store) >>> check our list of art supplies and send an email to Josep : ilpintore1@hotmail.com or go directly to the art supply space to get want you need and they will deliver it to Can Serrat: ask the direction to the staff. We can also provide a list of art supplies shop in Barcelona and around, depending on the specific demand.

BEDROOMS

16 rustic and charming bedrooms of various sizes are available for single, double, triple or quadruple accommodation.  If you reserve a shared room you will share with one to two other people. If you are a family and need extra beds in a shared space, we can work with you and include an extra bed.

Linen and towels are provided upon arrival and residents can use the washing machine located in the bathroom area to wash their sheets, towels, and other personal items during their stay.

It is expected that each individual cleans their bedroom during their stay and before departure. Check-in is flexible depending on when your flight arrives.  We ask that you aim to arrive around 12h. Unless otherwise asked due to early arrival, check out is 11:00 am–meaning to please clear your items from your bedroom by that time.  You are welcome to stay at the house as long as you need for the remainder of the day.

BATHROOMS

There is a community bathroom with sinks, and 3 showers and toilets are available on the ground floor. The bathroom facilities are cleaned 2 times a week, along with the other common spaces such as reception, living room, kitchen, etc…

Hairdryer, iron, iron board, and drying racks are also available for communal use.

MEALS

Basic food supplies are provided on a weekly basis and shared with all residents (ask for the list of items as it is changing depending on the season).

Dinners are prepared on weeknights and served buffet style at approx 8 pm.

Any extra or specific food and personal necessities can be purchased in the town of El Bruc and residents can use the refrigerators located in the dining room to store personal food items. There are also a number of restaurants located in and near the village that offer lunch menus at a very affordable price.

A microwave, toaster, water boiler, and coffee machine (tea and coffee provided) are also available in the kitchen for use throughout the day.
